EYE EXERCISES

With the ease of fast life with smart phones certainly there are some drawbacks that accompany. Constant use of smart phones and computers lead to poor eyesight or strained eyes. Are you constantly on the desk or on computer at job? Do your eyes feel tired? Or even if you have none of these and want to feel more rejuvenated and make your eyes sharper? Relax your eyes with these two simple eye exercises which can be practised anywhere and anytime!

  1. Palming

This can be practised at any time of the day. If one has poor eyesight one should practise it several  times a day.

Step1: Sit down. Relax your body. Smile. Take a deep breath in and slowly breathe out with a smile. Close your eyes gently.

Step2: Rub the palms of the hands together till they become warm. Gently, place the warm palms over the eyelids.

Step3: Feel the warmth and energy being transmitted from the hands into the eyes, look at the darkness and relax the eyes for few seconds.

(Make sure the palms and not fingers cover the eyes.)

Repeat this for at least 3 times.

Benefits: It aids in the correction of defective vision. Palming also relaxes and rejuvenates the eye muscles, and stimulates the circulation of the aqueous humour; the liquid that runs between the cornea and the lens of the eye. Palming relaxes the tired and strained eyes and also promotes good eyesight and calm. This simple method of palming not only relaxes eyes, but also gives soothing effect to the mind.

2. Blinking

One should develop the habit of blinking regularly consciously. Nowadays we stare at screens for so long which reduces the rate of our blinking.

Step 1: Sit down, relax your body. Sit with eyes open.

Step 2: Blink the eyes 10 times quickly.

Step 3: Close the eyes and relax for 5 or 6 breaths.

Repeat five times.

Benefits: Due to habitual tension in the eyes, blinking becomes irregular and unnatural. By blinking quickly, the blinking reflex becomes spontaneous, which induces relaxation of the eye muscles. Blinking feeds the cells of the eyes with necessary dose of oxygen.

Fact: The optimal frequency of blinking is 7 to 10 times each minute. Other species either blink much faster or slower, and also more or less frequently. For instance, a rabbit only blinks once every seven minutes or so.
